No lifting, hard to focus, tired earlier than usual, etc.

It’s been a week and I am just now feeling better. To be fair I also had some trouble sleeping due to allergies and a sore throat, but I thought I would share that the 3rd covid booster (I got Moderna) was a kick in the balls.

To be clear - the benefits are great - the numbers show that a fully vaccinated person is far less likely to get severe covid symptoms (like only 5-10% as someone unvaccinated) and half as likely to develop long covid. Please get vaccinated.

Also, I want to be clear that the weather is shifting dramatically where I live, I have allergies, and I’ve been going through a lot emotionally (coming out of my shell) all of which contribute to me not feeling physically great.

Well, they have been shown to significantly reduce symptoms (like 80%), and halve the chance of developing long covid. Don’t forget that people are still dying of covid and long covid is causing a massive increase in strokes and heart attacks even among younger people.

    They just don’t prevent transmission.

But the education on them has been total garbage.

    • Definitely the education has been garbage. Here when you went to the vaccination centre they gave you a fact sheet that said basic stuff like “mrna has existed for a while, it’s safe”. Basically just trust us.

This was a year ago, at the time when the antivaxx crowd made its way into Europe and was protesting. That is absolutely not how you’re gonna educate people who don’t want to get the vaccine lol.

My background in media analysis (PR firms using social media) gave me quite an insight into the ways that honestly these online movements are leveraged to socialize a grim state of affairs. I wouldn’t say that 100% of the government officials are in on it by producing crap educational materials, but the PR firms and corporations know how limited the resources of the govt are on that front and can manage the reality.

Wall Street/monopolies (a la Koch industries) have been ALLL over the pandemic narrative landscape

        • To respond to your other comment too, I don’t know how much of this is benign negligence. People that don’t care enough to do their job properly, or know that there won’t be consequences for them if they fuck up.

Like the many Euro countries that admitted they didn’t have emergency supplies they were supposed to have in case of pandemic. Ministers of health just outright lied to us and then nothing happened to them anyway. They can do whatever they want.

I think “no consequences” plays a major role. I think the government/corporate relationships bank on that dynamic big time. The Americans are completely fucked but idk, maybe the europeans can reassert some sort of working class influence on the government? This pandemic really exposed how much the Western governments only serve the interests of the bourgeoisie.

Yeah true. I probably will get the vaccine anyway. I’m very privileged to get my fourth shot already and a minor inconvenience is better than long covid of course.

Low trust in public health + no education via public health = low vaccination rates.

I love to whip out the fact that in China, they have like 90%+ vaccination rates and never implemented a vaxx mandate. No need to force people to do something when you’ve educated them on the situation.

In the West, the voices being amplified are too busy minimizing covid to actually educate anyone. It has been insane watching the people who didn’t believe covid existed come to grips with the fact that it exists but still not understand just how bad they got played. It’s a total clusterfuck.
