2025 is the year of the snake, so I was pondering symbolism about snakes. My train of thought went from Eve to Medusa. I really did not enjoy mythology when I was in school, but I think a large part of that was the “required reading” part of it. Today, I am curious about the historical mythology stories as well as more modern retellings, and perhaps those that switch typical perspectives.
So, I’m looking for book recommendations featuring Medusa. Anything good?
I picked up a book on mythology in the summer before 9th grade in California in the 90s, but formal lessons on mythology were included in some history classes and in my high school Latin class.
Weird. I’m from Canada so we just learned about beavers and math n shit.
Thinking about it more, we also encountered it in literature classes.
