Only in the 1980s and going into the 1990s was there a concerted gun culture and military training culture change that made it something commonly actively called out.

To be fair to Malcom X this predated Jeff Cooper’s 4 rules of firearm safety, and was the general trend of the period.
Yeah but you should just know.
