    Why not just use a LiFePo4 12v battery that is less likely to fail than a lead acid? They don’t really get hot when charging and the car could use the same conditioning system to keep it above freezing while charging but with a bms and charge controller it could avoid doing that unless the cell is really low. As opposed to always having to trickle charge a lead acid.

      That’s exactly what they have switched to. I got a retrofit from Tesla for $80 which is honestly kind of a good deal considering high end lead acid batteries are twice that.

        It bothers the hell out of me that UPS makers aren’t moving away from lead acid batteries tbh.
