There are interesting philosophical questions about the nature of consciousness and identity and the extent to which other animals experience these things, et cetera, et cetera, but on a practical level this conclusion seems pretty obvious to me.
How can anyone who’s had more than a handful of interactions with other animals not find this self-evident? Actually, I find the notion that there are a lot of people out there that don’t share this intuition incredibly uncomfortable to deal with.
