The number of comments is based on loading comments, not the counts at the top of the posting.
While I understand why you’re doing this (and having it constantly running would give some good metrics), I assume you could modify your script to search for missing comments and force them over? This would also be useful for backfilling comments on initial view.
I appreciate that this would be addressing the symptoms not the cause, and perhaps delay the cure.
