i live in a majority sfh zoned streetcar suburb, however the area is majority walkable and not too awful for biking as a confident adult because of the grid roads for the walkable portion.
however, we are surrounded on all sides outside of this pocket of grid streets by poorly zoned sfh dominated by no sidewalk cul de sacs and 4 lane stroads with painted door zone bike lanes. the most notable areas are anywhere particularly north (rich people so literally no sidewalk) and near freeway interchanges. our south freeway interchange is the worst of them because its very stroady and has an auto dealership next to it. the others dont even try to pretend theyre not highway interchanges.

you can spout incorrect shit, but you’ll probably be banned. Freedom of speech and freedom of association go hand in hand, and admins here will deplatform you much the same way a KKK member at a comedy club will be shown the door.
this story is really sad because its happening in the modern day when we know generally that this kind of development will not fix traffic. DOTs seem to me like they’re more like a department of cars…
I worked at a place that did this. We only saw the tips in the jar go to our pocket, we never saw the online or digital tips.
The virgin suburban driver vs the chad suburban cyclist
It takes 2 pause cycles, that’s essentially O(1) compared to a cache miss.
tbh SD cards are out and mostly for power users, make them compatible with M2 drives :))
I still miss steam skins, but these changes look a lot better than before.
someone put them all in therapy…
Yeah, that’s a sticky situation. Low costs driven by lower cost of land acquisition. I will say if you didn’t have the car you could probably afford the more expensive markets, but obviously going car free isn’t for most people…
That said, its a lot easier to do grocery shopping walking or biking when you just do it for the next few days max. Though if the closest store is a 30 min walk its pretty inconvenient.
Really depends on what you want and or need. Good general things to look for are riding position (biggest indicator is drop bars vs flats vs cruiser bars), mounting points for racks and fenders, and reliability. Try to avoid buying from department stores as the bikes are often mass produced and of very low quality.
I would go to a bike shop and ask to test ride some cheap hybrids or cruisers.
I had the same experience, biking made me appreciate travel over distances I can’t bike. It really is very eye opening.
We have that in LA too, just gotta signal it and hope your bike doesn’t get jacked.
Are you in SM by any chance?
Laziness >>> tbh
I made it hard to drive so I bike more often. Every small barrier makes it just a bit more likely that I don’t drive.
Oof, yeah the storage part is probably one of the hardest things tbh. If you commit to biking it is really nice, though u might still need to drive to get groceries and do errands if u carry a lot of stuff tbh.
For a sec I thought this was about light trucks, but this is still quite scary. I guess human life is just the cost of doing business according to the NHTSA…
we can see your comment and comment back because lemmy.ml federates with beehaw.
i love nimbys. block anything that improves qol because property values. recently nimbys tried to fight an in progress light rail extension due to crime concerns and now their entire city probably wont get a rail connection until they give up.
