Also, the idea just doesn’t fit Star Trek. It isn’t a comic book franchise, where fan-pleasing callbacks and crossovers are baked into the formula. In Star Trek media, callbacks and crossovers have tended to be some of the worst stories.

Chrono Trigger. It’s basically the evolutionary peak of the NES-era console RPG. Every aspect, including the story, art, game mechanics, and music, are best-in-class, with no obvious room for improvement given the technical constraints of the time.

Optical components are already used in some parts of servers, in interconnects. But I don’t expect them to replace silicon for general purpose processing ever. One thing that’s never noted in these scientific press releases is that optical components are huge. Over the years, Congress has passed a ton of buggy legislation that can be interpreted as delegating crazy amounts of powers to the executive. There is also a long history of the SC pushing back against executive attempts to exploit poorly worded legislation.
