  • That would be fine if you could use the same permit for moving it from A-B and getting it ready for registration but they want two separate permits for that

The time frame isn’t too bad, it’s $50 for 1 day but only ~$1 extra per day on top so the upfront cost is frustrating but requiring two permits is the frustrating part because they’re used for the same purpose i.e. full TAC compliance.

Does anyone have recommendations for couriers they use to buy second hand goods from interstate?

I’m looking to buy a device from Gumtree/Marketplace that can weigh up to 20kg and in a (relatively) decent sized box ~(70cmx40cmx40cm)

Looking for services (not necessary) they offer like:

    • either picking up from the person’s house or they deliver it to a location
    • they can pack it for you
    • method of payment to the seller otherwise I’d have to trust the other party to ship it off

I tried looking into backloading but it seems like too much trouble for minimal savings. Looked at courier sites and wasn’t sure if I was doing it correctly but it was estimating ~$80 which is actually not too bad. Would much rather go off of recommendations.

Was recommended Couriers Please but it depends on the franchise

Are there services that pick up from the persons house or would they have to go into a place to ship it off? They tend to stay on the market for a while so I’m sure the person wouldn’t mind.

My concern is also payment, I essentially have to trust the other party to ship it off once paid.

  • Okay as much as I love the infrastructure upgrades to Melbourne, some small things have been ticking me off about it.

    • Multiple occasions where the the west gate bridge says two lanes have been blocked and to go 40km/h only to find out at the end that no work was being done at the bridge at that time (zero signs of any relevant vehicles)

    • Yesterday Williamstown rd inbound was blocked, google maps said it wasn’t. Tiny detour sign to say take Grieve parade to come around. Millers rd (before Grieve parade) was actually open as a detour but no mention. Also zero detour signs before you hit Grieve parade exit. I suspect an uncountable number of drivers would have made a mistake there

    • Planning is unclear on PTV app with all the bus replacements, showing you train data on lines that aren’t running. Google maps isn’t any better either, giving you false information on what trains lines/stops actually available

This on top of an exhausting day was the cherry on top

  • Anyone experience the Frankston line disruptions?

PTV website says to go to the Art’s Centre to get a bus to Moorabbin, but then I keep getting told by them to take the Sandringham train to Brighton beach and take a bus from there to Moorabbin. That actually adds an extra 15-20 minutes to my travel rather than an express bus to Moorabbin from Art’s Centre.

Anyone know why they keep telling us to go Sandringham line instead? Is the Art’s Centre bus not actually running?

  • Hey thank you so much for your help and personal experience

First point (transferring) - this confirms my expectations and my experience with requesting a transfer. This sounds like the easiest way. I would expect to have to go the initial route if the current g-parent didn’t live here which luckily they do

Second point (concession) - Thanks for this, I’ve had one company backdate it by a year before, I see what this one says. According to the DFFH, concessions can be backdated for 12 months or the concession start date - whichever is more recent. I’ll give this a go before transferring retailers

I appreciate the detailed response, thank you!

  • Has anyone organised a utilities account transfer for a deceased estate?

Short story is I’m handling it for my grandparents, both live in the same house but one passed. The one that passed is the only name on the account.

I’m going to be switching providers anyway to the other g-parent, would it just be easier to let the new company handle the transfer instead of having to close the existing account? Also the current company never set up a concession for the eligible deceased owner, any ideas whether they’d be able to retroactively apply it now to ease the financial burden?
