  • I can confirm it is definitely still alive!

Unfortunately the past few weeks are the busiest of the year for me at work, and there’s been a lot going on in my personal life, so most of my code work is being done behind the scenes.

That said, I know we talked about getting a build out in early September, so I’m going to try and make time with Akesi soon to get that done, as I think I’m the holdup there 😂

  • Good timing! I’m updating one of the UI elements to use a newer library, which increased the spacing a bit on its own.
I’ve attached an example here, so you can see the before and after.

    Please bear in mind

    • Spacing around the handle comes that way
    • The library is currently bugged when it comes to detecting the nav bar height, so I had to set it to clear the 3 button nav bar

Finally, it may be possible to add a setting to configure the spacing in the app - we would likely need to define a few different Spacing definitions (compact, medium, airy?)… While not a priority at this exact moment, it may be worth creating a feature request!

  • I actually saw this post in the last minute of my own lunch break, so I was unfortunately not able to comment until now.

This announcement hits close to home for me, as @DieguiTux8623@feddit.it knows I’ve been working on the markdown for Raccoon off and on for several weeks now.
In fact, I had subscript, superscript, and block quotes all working pretty well back in early July with a series of workarounds, but I decided to pause all of that to try and build a “better” solution from the ground up…

Since then, I’ve been writing code, deleting it all, brainstorming, writing more, deleting that, etc. The end result is of course that none of those changes have been merged into Raccoon yet, and we’re coming up on a month since I started that project.
I ended up taking a week away from that to give myself space to come up with some better ideas.

In my personal opinion, Raccoon is quite good, @DieguiTux8623@feddit.it is an excellent and responsive dev, and the Raccoon community is incredibly helpful with directing the focus of development.
I do think it would be a loss for lemmy to lose either Raccoon or @DieguiTux8623@feddit.it, though I don’t wish to pressure you to make a decision.
FOSS devs are often stepped on, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and I have no desire to add to that by telling you how you should live your life.

I’d be happy to continue working on Raccoon with you, and the community, if you decide to continue.
I would also try to focus less on “perfection”, which would mean cleaning up my original July 7 markdown workarounds, and submitting a PR this week 🙂

I hope you are well, and know that your efforts have been, and continue to be appreciated.

PS: It looks like the initial grading of Raccoon was incorrect, and the score has been updated: https://lemmy.world/comment/11508715

  • We actually addressed and/or fixed a lot of those issues recently 🙂

I just built Raccoon from the latest source code, and there are only 2 issues I see in these comments now:

    • The list in this comment is not displaying correctly
    • The gif you embedded above is stretching to fill the entire width of the post [1]

Both will probably involve some markdown adjustments, which is probably going to take a little while…

But I’m already in the middle of messing with superscript and subscript, so maybe I’ll give these a shot sometime soon.

[1] I just looked at the code, and this is actually by design and not technically a bug. Also, I’ve been typing this on my laptop, and the markdown is sometimes funky even on the actual lemm.ee website. How fun!
