I find that the key is what I have on my second screen. I’m pretty good at only putting stuff on my second screen that help me with my task. Usually a checklist. I’ve learned not to have anything that I need to monitor or will grab my attention.
I know it’s not intentional, but the language does matter. By saying “she’s not his daughter” as in the title, it suggests to anyone who has kids that are not biologically related to them, that they are not their kids. Similarly, when people talk of someone’s “real parents”.
Yep. Often, I’m just writing down what people are saying to help me stay engaged. The resulting notes would need a lot of organization afterwards to make them useful, but paying attention in the moment is the main point.
