  • I don’t know whether to upvote you on the difficulty of defining a kids job or downvote on thinking there’s some sort of a lesson different than: he’s a kid with a temporary part time job, not an adult or independent.

Obviously I’m all for him earning more and wish him every success. However speaking from a much more general perspective: should there be any exceptions to livable wages annd is this one? Is there a reasonable way to even do that?

  • Now that my teens are working, I’m a bit uncomfortable with this. Does my teenager, whose living expenses are still fully paid by me, really need a living wage? We’re a $15 minimum wage so He’s excited about the money he’s making, but part of me feels like he’s taking some of that from someone who needs it

I guess it comes down to that it’s a job, that anyone can fill. Also that some teenagers may need a living wage

  • I still buy more halogen bulbs than LEDs - 4 fixtures in one room that I haven’t been able to convert go through more bulbs than the rest of the house of LED fixtures combined.

So far I haven’t bought any bulbs this year and have used only halogens, but I used up my stock of both.

My only real complaint about replacing LED bulbs is they change design more frequently than they need to be replaced - If I need to replace one bulb in a fixture, I can never find an exact match

  • Sales tax rates and fees are well known. In my locale, I know food and clothing (necessities) do not have sales tax while prepared meals and most other items do. I also know there’s a deposit on carbonated beverage bottles, vice taxes on cigarettes and alcohol and tourist taxes on downtown restaurants and venues.

I try not to go where the tourist taxes are. I used to try to avoid bottle deposits but realized that many small cans and bottles help my moderation while fewer larger ones do not. Although I do agree that integrating the taxes into the price would help with comparisons, having it called out separately helps with changing habits on entire categories

Actually the gas tax being integrated into the price probably has the opposite effect. I have no idea what I’m even paying for gas tax: it’s just included. But that also means that while I’ll compare gas prices to find the cheaper price (within reason), I never think about whether I should buy gas or not (well, that used to be true but knowing the many reasons not to buy gas’s means now I have an EV - taxes were no part of that)

  • The entire problem with Musk is people giving him an audience, every twit turning into a headline. Y’all are still doing it. Make any car purchasing decisions on what is right for you, rather than the ramblings of some celebrity. He has a right to an opinion but we don’t have to listen to it. Stop listening.

And here’s where everyone jumps all over me …… evaluate the car on its own merits. Personally I found a Tesla still the best EV available where I live, for the best price, and with similar quality to any other vehicle.

The internet also has way too short of attention span. Try to remember a few years back where Tesla was first struggling to scale up production of Model 3. There were many mistakes, many issues, poor build quality. But it’s like every other Tesla/SpaceX product: build something ambitious, test in public or even on customers, crash and burn until you get it right, continually increment. They have worked out their production issues, have continually incremented, and current products are much better than the ones from those headlines. Be open minded enough to make your decision on what you see now

  • Trump is also the Lightning rod: Lightning strikes might be less frequent or less focused if he weren’t there

Personally I believe it will be a typical curve:

    • greater violence after the election as the crazies don’t accept the results
    • opportunity to make an example of the crazies. Let use up that jail space formerly dedicated to profiting off minor drug users
    • a general calming as their crazy conspiracies don’t pan out,
    • as Trump realizes he’s too old for another go in four years and retires to Mar El Lago: he’ll still instigate, still dish the crazies but people will realize he’s no longer the lightning rod, the craziness will lose focus
    • Truth Social shits down as the remaining crazies are not a viable business plan
    • try as they might, other Republicans are no Trump. Trying to copy his brand of populous outrage won’t work for them
