    Courts have held fairly consistently that compelling a person to give up a password does not count as a violation of the 5th. Now, being told something by the police is y than being told something by a judge (and I still cannot believe the police are permitted to lie to people - how does that happen), but the compelled phone search has been a thing in many states for a while.

    If I recall correctly, under Trump, border patrol agents were even allowed to ask people to sign onto their social media accounts so they could review your history and posts.
