I don’t travel much and my computer is worse then a steam deck so looking at buying it for that reason.

I’m mostly docked, and I love the low power of the deck as I live off grid.

However, also look up Look up Minisforum Neptune HX99G, which is to be great for gaming. I want to get something like this eventually, and then retire my steam deck to a mostly emulation handheld machine.

I’m playing Hogwarts Legacy right now, both in handheld mode and docked mode, and I can’t honestly tell the difference when I’m playing docked, it’s really great, even at 720p

Yes and no. I mostly use mine docked, but it’s showing its age.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s really decent, but i’m looking into getting a mini pc with a more powerful GPU, since the steam deck can’t play newer titles.

Do you already have a desktop with a steam library? I would just run a hdmi from that to the screen of your choice.

I’d wager your run of the mill, Non integrated gpu laptop could be on par/outperform the deck while gaming.

Where the deck shines is being able to game in comfort while sitting on the couch or abroad.

Depends on what games you play docked due to the decks lower resolution being stretched out on a monitor or TV. Emulation, indie, and less beefy games sure, or newer titles if you don’t mind it looking like a ps3 Era game with muddy visuals

Oh yes. I did it and don’t regret it. My gf has a PS5 (we live together), but the PSN account is hers, with her progress, her games and for most of my live I’ve played in the PC.

But now, my PC sucks and I can play my Steam games on TV while she’s watching and online games in the couch, side by side with her (PS5 on TV, steam deck on my lap) ❤️

    Zero regrets 😌👍🏽

For the level of performance offered, the steam deck offers the best bang for your buck by far. in my country building a pc with comparable performance will cost 50% more than the deck by the component prices alone, before even factoring that the deck is portable, and already counts as having a controller and a screen.

If the performance offered by the deck is enough for you, it’s a hell of a deal, especially if you pick the LCD model, as when playing docked, the newer, and more expensive, OLED screen would completely wasted.

I was able to play HLL because of my Steamdeck. I use a USB-C cable from my display to my SD and got an wireless mouse & keyboard connected.

Not really. Depending on what you want to play an Xbox Series S could be better if you only intend to play docked.

Get the xbox series x on sale for stationary use. It was $349 with Diablo 4 during black Friday sales. Even remote play or xcloud can be used as well for a quick portable option with the console.

Yes. I bought and played resident evil 4 remake exclusively while docked and it looked and performed incredibly well.

I ended up getting a mobile monitor to play docked when I’m sitting on the couch. Sometimes holding the deck can be a strain, so it’s nice to just use a controller, while still freeing up my TV. It’s nice to be able to play handheld when I’m sitting in the car in the school pickup line or whatever. While everyone’s use case is different, it was worth it to me.

The only reason why I haven’t upgraded to the OLED is because i only play mine docked to my Samsung 4k. I bought the dock as soon as the OLED was announced…

Of course everyone will have their own opinions in this thread but I did not own a tallboy nor did I, or ever will I have the money to throw away like that on a top desktop pc. That being said, when the deck got announced, I pre-ordered it that day with the intention of it being my first and only gaming pc. Main points that sold me were; the bigger roster of games on offer on pc given I had fell out of love with gaming due to the lack of good games across the platforms I already owned. The whole idea of it being a handheld and docked medium meant I can get comfy with games regardless of time and place while in the home. Lastly the community support specifically showcasing how good emulation was on the deck during the time I waited for my deck to be in stock. Since getting it I have played AAA, platformers, puzzle, point and click, FPS and emulated countless of older gen consoles and I am yet to find anything about this to moan about. Quite simply it is the dogs bollocks and everybody WILL find it’s uses to them regardless of how sceptical they are. Pull the trigger and enjoy it
