I know, I know, they had a steam controller at one point. But I want a controller with everything that the steam deck has, if that’s even possible. I legitimately use every button and track pad on this thing, and I would kill to have a wireless controller that had these features.

Yes. And make using Bluetooth controllers not an absolute pain in the ass. I wish I could just connect it like one does with the Nintendo switch, you press a button, it connects.

But no! You have to go through the Bluetooth pairing every single time! I ended up just buying a wired controller after a month of annoyance, because I prefer gaming comfortably on a couch and not getting up every. time. I want to play a damn game

It depends on the controller. My PS4 controller needed to be paired once and then it will just connect if I turn it on. My Steam Controller is the same.

My Google Stadia controllers however work the way you describe, which is a hassle. Those were Wifi controllers first and Bluetooth controllers second, as that functionality was only enabled when Stadia went under and through a complicated setup allowed you to switch the controller to a generic Bluetooth controller mode. Perhaps this is the reason they work less well.

Yeah I use Nintendo pro controllers and joycons (all from the online Nintendo store, so not fakes) and then my friend tried his steam controller on his own steamdeck and we ran into the same problem, except the steam controller was also disconnecting during gameplay. 🫠 Maybe I’ll try a PlayStation controller once I scrounge up the money for that

PS4 Controller works great. The trackpad is okay for navigating menus or when you need to get into desktop mode

Dualsense Edge is the next best thing imo for docked mode. It’s got pretty much every feature that the Steam Deck has, minus a couple buttons.

I tried using a pad but the experience sucks. I caved in and got a wireless keyboard and mouse, haven’t looked back since. As an added bonus I can now play the not fully configured games too and base building games are much easier with a mouse

I often use my Deck for a controller more than actually gaming from it.

I use Moonlight, but Steam Streaming works for it too. You can just stream the game from you PC to the Deck, turn the brightness/clockspeed down on the Deck and it’ll just play the game just as well from the PC.

The stream controller has the inputs, just without the second analog stick. The SD’s ultra customizability started with the controller.

I have a long USB extension I use when playing on my external display so that the Steam Deck is my controller.

(I also cannot go back to playing without access to the dual trackpads)

Which is part of the reason I prefer and always recommend USB-C hubs over Docks. Docks kinda tie your Deck to your desk/display proximity-wise.

You could technically use the extension on the dock’s connector too. But then you just paid “dock” prices for nothing.

I agree. I won’t buy a dock until they come out with a controller with track pads and it mimics the steam decks controller ui

The PS4 & PS5 controller is a good substitute. Especially if with the PS5, you can get a plug in keyboard,
