then where is Henry Kissinger right now?
Checkmate, atheists.
Well… he’s dead. :)
Dead is not a location ;)
Edit:
I don’t know then. where was he buried, was he cremated, was he strewn across the ocean. Kept in an urn sitting on a fireplace. etc.
But that’s just his body… Henry Kissinger’s limbs are not Henry Kissinger, so the question remains…
Edit: But seriously though, do you really think someone would actually buy these arguments? Is it not apparent that this is satire?
Henry Kissinger’s limbs are not Henry Kissinger
That’s a bit of an open question though, isn’t it? I think that most of the philosophers, neuroscientists, and psychologists would say that Kissinger’s limbs were Kissinger, to the extent that his model of himself and the world included them as part of the phenomenon he thought of as himself.
(not sarcasm)
My approach is that the “person” itself is just ideas that live in people’s minds, and isn’t an actual physical thing. So much of what people think of when they think about a person is views, moral standings, social standings etc of the person, all which don’t actually exist as physical objects. Which is demonstrated by the fact that people don’t use “Kissinger” to refer to his ashes or whatever.
Edit: Which kind of means that the person does live on in the minds of others, just like the cliché goes. But it isn’t “real” anymore because it doesn’t associate to a physical object anymore.
Humanity and intelligence is just increased complexities of a flow chart.
The only difference between you and your cat is the number of decision statements and choices our brain is wired for, and your cat is adorable.
given your “dead is not a location” being in the negatives, I would say that some won’t realize it.
I don’t think I have ever met a religious person dumb enough to believe that asking where a dead person is is a valid argument, but then again, maybe we live in very different places of the world.
Also, when has a religious person genuinely said “checkmate atheists”?
I know I should never underestimate Americans, but I think this is beyond it.
I know I should never underestimate Americans
never, never underestimate people. Ever!
I am starting to feel like people read one comment which they reflexively, without much thought, thought was written by an asshole, and then just downvoted all the rest and upvoted everyone else without actually reading the conversation. Which is sad, but to be expected.
I kinda wonder whether there’s a cure. Beehaw certainly feels a lot more genuine, probably because they moderate carefully and disable downvotes. I should probably check it out more closely.
I keep a special place in my atheist mind for these kinds of people, where I can find joy in imagining a horrible eternal fate for them. It is not relevant to my core beliefs, I just think it’s fun to think about this man burning for eternity.
Rotting in the ground.
Reincarnated as my neighbor
My condolences
No worries he’ll have to reincarnate again soon.
Follow the smell of piss.
Being forced through a pasta roller for all eternity. Ramen.
Gone, which is arguably worse.
