Five months after the Supreme Court legalised it, Nepal on Wednesday formally registered the first case of same-sex marriage, making it the first South Asian country to do so.

Trans-woman Maya Gurung, 35 and Surendra Pandey, 27, a gay, got legally married and their marriage was registered at Dordi Rural Municipality of Lamjung district in Western Nepal, according to Sanjib Gurung (Pinky), President of Blue Diamond Society, an organization working for the rights and welfare of the sexual minorities in Nepal.

“do the needful” was actually a proper English phrase during the time the British colonized India. it’s not an Indianism, it’s a preserved Britishism.

I’d say all the now banned gays in Russia could fly down to Nepal, but they don’t have an international aviation industry anymore

Nepal is also a democracy where a communist party holds significant power and has significant influence. Take from that what you will.

Those details aren’t that pertinent since this came about judicially, but still fun trivia. Of what little I’ve read about them previously, the nepal communist party might be the only straight-line communist party I like; 'cept when the Maoists split off and started a civil war, that really harshest the vibe

Not pertinent in one sense, but on the other, no matter how judges get into office, whether elected or appointed, the communists will have a lot of influence.
