I’ve seen a few pictures on this sub of Steam Decks being utilized for odd purposes, such as for the military and construction. This made me curious. What other obscure use cases are Steam Decks being utilized for?
Killing Russians.
Arch Linux, war riding, mitm, package sniffing. All very legal ofc
I use it as a tiny laptop alternative for DJing, i even take it to dj in nightclubs and it works fine.
Before I even try on Linux… Are you on Linux running SeratoDJ via proton or you have SD with Windows?
I use VirtualDJ and Serato on Windows, i have not tested with proton on linux.
Same here! I haven’t brought it to a proper show yet but I’ve made a few sets using Mixxx on the Steam Deck with my Hercules DJ4Set & it works like a treat! Haven’t had any dropouts or anything of the like so I’m hoping to take it out for a spin soon.
I use a custom controller for Sound Voltex and an L-TEK dance pad to play DDR like games (crypt of the Necrodancer / Cadence of Hyrule / Outfox)
The best way I can describe is that I use it as a controller. With Moonlight + Sunshine on my PC, if I’m playing a game on my desktop that works well with a controller, I’ll connect the deck via Moonlight to use it as a controller.
Functionally turned it into a Wii U. The controller is comfortable, the back buttons are nice, the input lag is practically non-existent through Moonlight, and if I want to walk away from my desktop but keep playing, I can.
I am a part of a high school robotics team (FRC team 2648). And we’re planning on driving our robot with it. Obviously as a joke, but still.
Cheese platter.
I’ve seen someone using it for astrophotography, also seen pictures from Star Wars Galaxies Edge at Disney controlling the robots.
I use it to render my Blender Project, since it is miles better than my literal crap pc
Gaming when looking at this sub haha
Think I remember seeing Ukrainians using one with a drone at the beginning of the war.
I saw someone on r/livesound went and did multitrack recording with their Steam Deck lol
Defending your house from a home intruder.
