Been playing some Cyberpunk and Guardians of the Galaxy at 30FPS and I swear it looks and plays much better. I found 30FPS to be tolerable if not unpleasant on the LCD deck but it feels really nice on the OLED though I can’t figure why.
So, is this just placebo effect and does anyone know the technical reasons 30FPS would feel better on the OLED deck?
Probably the 90 Hz display, meaning frame is repeated 3x. With the LCD it’s 2x or 1x if set to 30 Hz, and if at 30 Hz it’s literally flashing away on and off.
I think 30fps feels great on it. Elden ring at high setting 30fps in hdr is amazing.
What others said and, probably, last time you’ve played on LCD you were using 3.4 and by the time you’ve got OLED they released 3.5
Still feels pretty jacked when you’re using the Deck’s frame limit slider. Perhaps slightly less so than before.
probably because of the 90hz and maybe placebo because of the better contrast, blacks, and colors
In addition to what everyone else has said here, OLED as a technology has near instant pixel response times leading to less latency all around.
It runs over 30 so unless you have frame lock or Hz limit set, you might be feeling 40 FPS which yea it feels like 60 on that screen😁
at 30fps the OLED deck runs at 90hz, giving you about a 20ms reduction in input lag. at 100ms (vs 120ms on the LCD deck), that’s probably enough for it to feel like it’s more responsive.
^ This fo sho. Input lag can make games feel sluggish.
Yeah it’s great! Also, LCD and OLED both got 3.5 on stable around the same time, which improves input lag across the board. So OLED got a double boost if that was your first experience on 3.5
Sorry I’m not sure I understand correctly.
30fps at 90Hz mean you’ll have the same frame twice, right? The game renders a frame, it gets displayed 3 times, it renders the next, displayed 3 times also…
How can that impact input lag? The game is only going to take your input in your account in the newly rendered frame, so every 33ms?
