Hey guys, I have a powerful laptop that runs all the modern games I want at 1440p 60 fps. I am looking for a handheld gaming device to play on my couch, away from home etc. I was leaning towards Steam Deck OLED heavily but realised it doesn’t have gamepass. I have only 1 game on Steam and don’t intend on spending money to buy new games on a handheld device. My main purpose was to play Gamepass games on my couch (I got 6 months of Gamepass for free) whenever I wanted a break from PC Gaming.

Is it possible to use the actual Xbox Gamepass on SD? I don’t want to rely on Cloud Gaming as I want to be able to play my games smoothly even when I’m away from home and have a shitty wifi in my hands.

Or do you guys think I should go for Rog Ally/Legion Go as they offer Gamepass? My main needs are Gamepass and good battery (at least 1/1.5 hours of decent gaming without plugging my device). Performance I don’t really mind as long as I can play the games smoothly cause I have my laptop for it.

You can not install games locally from gamepass on the steam deck without first installing windows. You can stream them from your PC or your Xbox if you don’t want to do the cloud gaming. With a good home network you should have no real perceptible lag. The huge benefit to doing it this way is that since you’re not taxing the hardware at all since you’re just using it as a screen and a controller essentially, you can have really awesome battery life. That’s how I’ve been playing Starfield. I have almost 100 hours in streaming it from my laptop to my deck and have zero complaints.

None of that helps you for away from home though, so you’ll have to weigh your options there.
