Hi,

I never owned a handheld, however now I’m thinking about to buy a steam deck. Since many days I’m constantly watching YT reviews and I already feel in love with it.

My only concern is: Is playing epic games like Baldurs Gate 3 or Last of Us not loosing something by the small screen - in comparison to playing the games on a big TV?

Is it not like watching Mission Impossible on the smartphone compared to watching it in cinema?

How do you SD owners feel about that?

    Being somewhat time constrained, the deck actually makes it possible for me to play larger story based games without feeling the need to play for 2-4 hours at a time.

    I can play for half an hour or an hour, put it to sleep and just pick it back up later from where I left off. Still an immersive experience too.

    All you really lose is graphical fidelity and performance, but that’s traded for convenience.

    RDR2 plays better on a big screen, but it’s still very enjoyable on the Steam Deck. Fast dual-stick shooters like Geometry Wars 3 really shine on the deck, though.

    I know exactly what you mean cos I had the same worry but after owning a steamdeck for a year I’m surprised because it turned into my main gaming device . I’ve a really top end gaming rig that I’ve thousands on and it’s sitting there turned off because steamdeck is just more comfy.
    I’d say im 70% deck 30% pc now.

    I finished 1 playthroug of bg3 on the deck and I think thr time performed super well

    It depends on how close I put it to my face PRIMARILY. Which is kind of less comfortable VISUALLY (in terms of eye focus, putting it close enough for optimal immersion can give me a headache.) But playing with a handheld in bed or in weird positions is PHYSICALLY more comfortable for my body. A tv in the same situation would be much further from my eyes (like in the bedroom).

    And the new OLED with HDR is SO much more immersive, along with the 1000 nits of brightness and true blacks.

    The thing that makes it less immersive for me definitely is the resolution. It just doesnt look…SHARP like my 4k tv does. Itd be perfect at 1080p at the distances I play it. But then it couldnt run nearly as many games. Its a tradeoff thats definitely worth it for most purposes.

    Don’t know what epic feels like, but no matter how a game looks, runs, it feels much more comfortable and better

    Always play on consoles, currently have the ps5 but love the steam deck. Got mine 6 months ago, and ordered the LE Also. And I like that I can stream ps5 games when I feel like laying in bed or someone else is on the tv
