Sometimes I’ll open desktop mode on my Steam Deck LCD to watch stuff and the colors are great and vibrant like in gaming mode after the 3.5 update. But most other times I’ll open it and everything looks dull and washed out again. Does anyone know how this is happening? There aren’t any new “adjust color” settings in desktop mode from what I can find. Could the color boost I’m sometimes getting after opening desktop mode just be a glitch? Sure hope not… because it looks great.

Search for “Nested Desktop” in the start menu and right-click it/add to Steam. Then return to game mode and run it.

This lets you launch the desktop as an app in game mode, so it should keep the same color settings.

Use one of the community layouts for controls

Neat little trick for sure. But why it sometimes works fine (without using Nested Desktop) and other times it doesn’t? Whoever can figure this out, please let me know!

I’ve noticed this too, compared to my Windows PC which has great color and gamma for videos, the steamos desktop mode for videos looks dull or washed out a bit… I think it’s a gamma issue, and unfortunately they didn’t bundle in the color management panel into steamos, which means we can’t fix it with a color profile.

I haven’t done it yet, but I’d be interested to see if booting into a different OS or distro would have the same or different colors.

I was able to make things a bit better last night by lowering the gamma in display settings from 1.00 to 0.70 or 0.80.

Could be a dumb hdmi implementation. Spec says hdmi is limited range 16-235 levels while the rest are pc range 0-255. If your monitor has it, try using displayport instead.

Same here. I wish there was a way to consistently apply Steam color settings in desktop mode.
