I don’t know what the deal is, but last night I noticed that my OLED Deck has a sort of grainy haze over the entire screen. I had been playing System Shock 2 on it for hours straight, but I took a break for ~2hrs. When I came back, something looked off and now it’s been bugging me ever since.

On the main menu of Game Mode, I can see a lot of noise in the color gradients. On my LCD Deck, everything looks smoother and sharper. I’m assuming this might be normal and it’s just the difference in screen size but I’m not sure.

It’s called mura, and it’s inherent to OLED technology (for those who don’t know the O in OLED stands for organic, perfect panels are basically impossible).

Gotcha. I don’t know why I didn’t notice it until now, as I’ve had the OLED since Wednesday. But it’s been bugging the crap outta me since last night. It’s mainly grey areas that bring it out.

I thought it was image retention at first and then some kind of weird overlay effect from my CSS Plugin. I was thinking about submitting an RMA request before I thought to ask here.

I’m just gonna force myself to forget about it by not staring too hard.
