On PC Steam I can filter my Library by Video to see the 50+ movies I own on Steam. (In case you don’t know, back in the day Steam used to sell and rent movies.) I created a Category for them and moved them all into it. On the Deck I can see that Category but nothing is in it.
Yesterday I added the 3 videos for ‘Making of Horizon Zero Dawn’ to my Steam account. I can see those on my Home page on the Deck right now at the top in the recent list, so I know it’s entirely possible to access Steam movies from the Deck. But on the Deck I can’t find any way to see the other videos I own.
I’ve searched the net and I can’t find a solution. Is this just something they haven’t added / don’t plan to add support for? Is there any way to work around it?
I’m just taking a shot in the dark here but I’m guessing that those videos that you purchased require some form of DRM that the steam deck does not support. It’s the same reason why some games like a hat in time transcode and download videos for you because they cannot be played by default without a license to a particular playback codec. I can only assume that that’s the problem here but I’m just guessing.
But I can watch them from the PC Steam app and it opens them in my default web browser. You would think they could open a browser widget on the Deck to play them without breaking any legal contracts.
I just thought of it… I bet I can go to the Deck Desktop Mode and use the Steam app there to watch them.
Don’t see it happening. Glad to know I was at least on the right track there. Have you tried them using a web browser?
When I’m logged into the official Steam website (PC browser) I can see all of my games but none of my movies. The only place I can see my movies is in the PC Steam app. From there I click Play on one of them and it launches my default web browser and I can watch it there. I guess I could bookmark all of those url’s and sync my bookmarks to a browser on the Deck in Desktop Mode then install the browser as a non-Steam game and try running it in Deck Mode…
I didn’t even know of this documentary. Thanks. I just got the game in the steam sale
Wait we can buy movies on Steam?
Those movies are probably too old that Valve didn’t consider them in the UI creation of Gaming Mode. Though, that’s just my guess.
Maybe open up an issue on their github page? Maybe they’ll fix it.
