Hello. I tried my best Google-fu on this with mixed success.
So I hooked my deck into my 4k TV that’s displaying at 4k 60hz and it was locked at 30 fps, thought that was odd so I switched it to 1080 60hz and still locked at 30fps. I changed it to 2k 120hz and now it can hit 120 fps. So why can’t I set it to 60 hz and get 60 fps?
Maybe a weird 59hz thing? Not sure. Any help would be great.
Yep, I’ve been having similar issues on my Steam Deck Dock. No issues with my Baseus branded dock. It’s an issue on both my LCD and OLED Steam Decks and started happening after 3.5.5 or the latest Dock firmware update, not sure which caused it as they updated at the same time. It just refuses to go 60hz in 4k, though it will go 60hz in 1080p.
Just want to add to this, I am also having this issue. I have a Steam Deck LCD & my partner just got me a Steam Deck OLED LE. After hooking up my new OLED to the dock I was prompted to update the dock firmware. Since then, I have been unable to get above 30fps when docked. Tried a few different things, going into desktop mode & checking the TV’s refresh rate, changing resolution in game properties on Steam before launching & nothing works. This appears to be a new issue & glad I’m not the only one! I was starting to worry and was thinking maybe the new Deck OLED was the issue
I also have exactly the same. I never had issues untill the latest update including the dock update.
Yeah definitely wierd & I hope that Valve is aware so it could be fixed
Man I’ve been having some crazy issues with docking since I’ve bought the official dock. Sometimes it won’t display on my TV and I’ll have to turn off and unplug everything, plug it all back in and turn it all on. I had this 30 fps issue on my TV and that solution worked initially. Now no matter what I do it stays stuck on 30 fps.
I had another weird issue I encountered when I took it to my parent’s house over the holiday. If I unplugged anything from it between play sessions I had to start it up while unplugged from power, wait for it to come on the TV, then plug in the power. If I didn’t the TV wouldn’t recognize it at all.
Do you happen to have FSR enabled in SteamOS settings?
There is a weird bug right now that caps fps when enabling FSR when docked. Could be a “just me” bug, but i’m not sure if it is my dock, or my TV.
Happens with Official Dock, and with the earlier JSAUX dock.Disabling FSR fixed the issue for me
What dock are you using? Not all of them have enough HDMI bandwidth for 4k at 60 Hz. You’re unlikely to be able to run many games at that resolution and framerate anyway, to be honest. It is odd that 1080p at 60 Hz is not working, though.
It’s the official dock with an adequate hdmi. It can do 2k at 144 just fine, but the software just won’t allow 60hz to display at 60fps.
I’m aware that games can’t really run at these resolutions anyway, this is just something that I found.
That’s odd. I’m on the preview branch with the official dock, and 4k at 60 works, albeit with a lot of input lag for some reason. Have you checked the cable with another device?
What about 1080p at 120, can you just limit the fps to 60? You may even be able to use 40 fps at 120 Hz.
There have been a lot of issues with the official dock that seems to point to bandwidth issues.
Check your HDMI cable. You’re probably using one that isn’t specced to support 4k60.
I know if it’s one that says “HDMI with ethernet” on it it will definitely work.
As I said, the hardware is adequate. There is some problem with the software with 60hz. The fact that it can’t get 60fps at any resolution is the smoking gun.
I thought it was worth a look. I’ve seen it before where a cable didn’t support 4k60 that the device wouldn’t go to 1080p60 either.
