Virus Total Link

Compiled on ReVanced Manager v0.0.57 with latest Revanced Extended patches and integrations. Remember the best way to get the ReVanced apks are to compile them yourself, but if you are unable to do that yourself, you can use my versions. I simply use the manager and compile as soon as new updates become available, but this process elicits implicit trust. Hope this helps!

What’s up with how many apparent forks of Revanced there are, without unique names, and without clarity about what source code they’re built from? This post links to a mediafire URL for an APK - and a VirusTotal link for that “seems legit” touch - this is a hilariously bad situation.

Searching for Revanced i currently find https://revanced.io/ and https://www.tuberevanced.com/ and https://revanced.net/ and https://revanced.org/ all of which are completely different slick-looking websites which I guess are each distributing their own binaries. What’s the difference? Are any or all of these malicious?

https://revanced.app/ redirects to https://github.com/revanced which has many recently updated repos, so I assume that is the upstream of the rest? But it doesn’t appear to have binaries or any installation instructions! It has a revanced-releases-api repo and a revanced-website repo - but it isn’t clear where that site is actually deployed. The only URL I see associated with it is revanced.app which just redirects to the github organization page.

Meanwhile NewPipe still works and is in f-droid (last updated a month ago). 🤷

Ok, after some more reading I see - Revanced is a mod of the official YouTube app so the APKs are not legally distributable… hence this ridiculous situation. /me closes tabs, shakes head in disgust

I assumed anyone interested in this sub knew what ReVanced was and where these were being compiled from.

The original patches and integrations on the official Youtube APK (which I downloaded from APKMirror), are from the repos (revanced-patches & revanced-integrations) linked here https://github.com/revanced but I use a modified fork by a dev called inotia00 who offers some more customisations while compiling, the source code of which are available on the repos linked on their profile here. The binaries are purposely not provided because the project that ReVanced is loosely based on, called Vanced, got shut down by Google for providing them. So letting people use the source code to compile binaries is okay, from what I understand.

ONLY the github repos, and any websites linked there are official, trust NOTHING else.

While NewPipe is great, it does not offer account log-ins, SponsorBlock, ReturnYoutubeDislike and the Youtube algorithm by default (I am aware of the fork, it still does not have the algorithm), which some people like me want to retain along with the benefits of Youtube Premium (like background play etc. ) that ReVanced offers.

my apologies for not realizing this is a warez thing; i mistook it for free software due it being on lemmy so my questions (and interest in it) were based on this misconception. thanks for explaining though, and for keeping the spirit of adversarial software distribution alive :)

I have added relevant information to the sub’s description for other un-initiated users, apologies for my oversight.
