    According to Wikipedia, chicken (as in, specifically gallus domesticus) has been eaten in SE Asia for ~8,000 years, China and India for ~5000 years, the Middle East for ~4,000 years, Europe for ~2000 years, Africa for ~1900 years, and may have even (barely) made it to the Americas before the Columbian Exchange via the Polynesians.

    Luckily, we don’t have to limit ourselves to referencing ancient texts; we can do carbon dating and genetic testing on the chicken bones folks threw away.
