Is there any explanation why if I drink some Glenmorangie18 the adverse affects are basically non-existent compared to cheaper stuff?
Wow thanks for the insight, I had no idea about this. I thought it was solely the wood of the barrel giving off flavors over time. It’s kind of surprising to me that these substances will vanish over time.

Longer they age in the barrel the more the sulfates and other undesirables pass out of the whiskey. That might be something to do with it.

Maybe you don’t mind drinking more of a cheap whisky then you would a more expensive one, which you’d probably use more sparingly?
