Hello and welcome to this new community to discuss tropical plants. A little about me, your host. My name is Chris, in my day job I am the horticulture director at a botanical garden in south Florida, where we grow a broad range of tropical trees, palms, gingers, and other plants. Please share your photos, discuss culture, and anything else related to tropical plants and gardens
That’s really cool! Thank you for visiting here.
The Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam is one of the places I like to visit the most around here - especially the tropical section. I am originally from the tropics, and so I feel a little bit closer to home there.
I’ve heard of the Hortus. It’s such a great name. We don’t have much blooming in the garden right now as it’s the middle of our, admittedly mild winter, but here is a Tahitian Gardenia. Gardenia taitensis which is growing in our fragrance garden.
A ‘fragrance garden’ sounds wonderful! I have never smelled this plant, but the petals remind me both of a white Plumeria rubra and rhododendrons, so I am imagining a similar smell.
