The reviews for “The Techno-Optimist Manifesto” on AI have come in from award-winning writers at the GeekWire Summit, and they’re not great.

“Technology can solve certain problems, but I think the biggest problems that we face are not problems that have technological solutions,” Chiang said in response. “Climate change probably does not have a technological solution. Wealth inequality does not have a technological solution. Most of these are problems of political will. … And so Marc Andreessen’s manifesto is a prime example of ignoring all of these other realities.”

I hate people who think or try to propagate that tech can solve all problems.

Tech is a tool. Powerful tech in the hands of unethical people will be used unethically. Tech doesn’t magically do the “right thing” as if it has any volition.

And it is usually the same people who purport that tech can solve all problems. For example, Sam Altman and his World Coin. It claims to solve inequality problem, but it’s most definitely not going to.
