Image description: A sulphur-crested cockatoo sitting on top of a chain link fence, in front of a shaded, green leafy background. The cockatoo is featherless aside from two small yellow feathers on the top of its head, and some feathers on its wings.

That’s hours from being lunch for something…
The bird survived for years believe it or not. The fence it was sitting on was on the edge of a secure yard, with no dogs, cats etc. My uncle would throw seed in there for all of the birds every day, and this guy would just climb down a tree and in to the yard. Because the yard was enclosed, he was able to eat safely on the ground
Aww I’m glad your uncle threw out seed for them
It had to live for years without being able to fly? The disease is permanent? Is it contagious?
It’s a viral disease, that is ultimately fatal. It’s highly infectious in domestic birds, but less so in wild populations, presumably because the other birds shun the infected bird
Awe, poor little guy. I’m glad your dad helped him out.
Did it get a name? I feel like it deserved a name.
