I have a few dreams in life. Some, I have realised. Others, I have not.

Yet to befriend a crow or magpie, not really into birds but I love corvids. There’s just something about them; they radiate intelligence and curiosity. I’m guessing they have good reason to be skittish, but I just want to provide them treats and make friends!

Apparently the trick is to routinely drop food where they see you do it, and over time they’ll come to get used to you and bring you gifts!

I too would like a crowbro. I did have a starling bro for a while. That was a wild happening in my life.

Get you some peanuts and start crow feeding!

My dad has a pair of magpies that visit his garden everyday. Not sure how long I’ll be living with him (final stages of buying a house), I left them some nuts last time I was there but will definitely make it a regular habit, thanks for the tip :)

I’ve heard in some places you can just capture starlings and take them home because they are invasive. It’s tempting after seeing the video of one talking and making r2d2 sounds…

They aren’t a protected species, no. This one was raised by my neighbour as the mother laid the nest inside the engine of a work vehicle he was using, so he took the flock home and began feeding them, the rest didn’t survive but this spicy little guy did. For some reason he really loved car rides so we’d take him in the car in the morning to drop me off at work. And the thing with starlings that’s funny is that you will get to know their particular voice and be able to pick it out of a tree of many chirping birds. He would yell outside in the tree for me to come outside.

I have a regular group of crows come visit me, they love roasted peanuts (no salt) and cheap cat food!

Cat food is a great tip, how’d I forget that. Think I’m going to have to build some sort of rat-proof feeder to make sure I don’t turn my dad’s garden into a pest magnet.

I just throw out a mini scoop full (probably 3-4oz) whenever they’re in my yard. I just get the cheapest bag of food and it lasts months. Hope you can get some regular visitors!
