seems like it’s 97% memes or news articles. i love a good shitpost but this site would be even better with in depth nuanced discussion – especially with a higher quality userbase than reddit

Personal opinion: Lemmy needs less of these tiny bullshit communities that nobody cares about, cluttering feeds. I don’t need to see a post from a 4 person dnd group in Alberta (fake example) i dont want tonsee a community for every damm city in the world, sports team in the world, etc. There’s a user going around making a new community for every type of “imaginary art” that they can conceive… why? Just make a darn “imaginary art” community and put it all there. People who aren’t interested shouldnt need to block so many stupid communities just to find something else.
Whats causing people to make everything so annoyingly granular?
There’s no need for people to be making all these public communities, you’re watering down the entire fediverse with your misplaced intention to populate it with more content. I open my feed and there like 1 thing per page that is interesting or relevant in the slightest, other than NEWS/POLITICS.
Am I a shit lemmy user? Do others feel this frustration too? Lemmyknow
No, I’ve blocked more communities since coming here than I would prefer. Just scrolling the All Hot feed sometimes looking for new stuff is really annoying. Theres an especially weird problem with hentai. I’ve blocked I swear like 40 communities, and they all could have been one single community, bcz when you click into the community, it’s one person posting over and over.
My blocked user list is not nearly as long as my blocked community list, both slow my experience, and needlessly tax infrastructure I don’t pay for. And the issue really limits the number of migrants from other sites I think.
We need better tools. We need a better communal understanding that you don’t need to make a new page for every subset of classification if post type possible. Also I am unable to block the russia.sopul or whatever it is, which… honestly creeps me out and gives me a lot of pause for thought if I am safe using this site at all. If basic functionality like blocking a community can be tampered with by a community, I don’t want to be here tbh.
Edit: can anyone else block: https://lemmy.world/c/russia@sopuli.xyz. ?
I finally got sick of it and just disabled nsfw entirely. Spent way too much time.blocking porn I wasn’t interested in.
You’re not alone. Thank fuck you said it. People create a whole new community where a single post would have achieved as much. It’s waaaay too broken down over here. I have had to block comms for each English premier league team, each fucking one. And pretty much empty comms apart from dead threads on match results.
I’m pretty sure, and I was going to try avoid being saying this but here I go anyway, all these little fuckers just want mod power and the reason they left Reddit was because they didn’t have it. They’re making every fucking Community they can think of in the hopes that they can be a power mod someday

Are you browsing by all? Subscribe to what you are interested in and just browse that feed.
That way you only get the stuff you want and can target it to directly that (maybe you want imaginary mermaids, but not monsters?)
That works when you have your profile set up,as it were. But communities I want are still absent or being formed, and my subscriptions list is not complete,so I still browse by all to get wind of new ones as they pop up. I cannot wait to retreat from all back to a curated list though.
Yeah the problem is I can’t find things I’m interested in to be honest
Yeah, it’s annoying having to block a dozen communities for the same subject, especially since you have to face the same issue for every server! I finally broke down and stopped using Jerboa and started using Sync, just because it has great blocking features. You can block by username, community, by server, and by keyword. I have a bunch of keywords blocked. “Trump, Elon Musk, Politics, Democrat, Republican, Twitter”, and a couple dozen more keywords are blocked for me because of how annoyingly pervasive they are. Some stuff still slips through, but because it’s not a constant onslaught, I actually enjoy it when it does slip through, instead of being constantly bombarded by it.
