In the recent Lemmy developer update, there’s a reference to one Lemmy developer, SleeplessOne1917.

I found some horrifying comments from this user.

https://lemmygrad.ml/comment/2649200 - “There is no such thing as an Israeli civilian. All settlers are valid targets.”

https://lemmygrad.ml/comment/2649472 - “15 year olds are military age. That makes them valid targets for killing.”

https://lemmygrad.ml/comment/2649732 - “… There is no such thing as a zionoid civilian. Everything that moves and isn’t Palestinian is a valid target. …”

I was ready to see some wild extrapolation of some nuanced/controversial/whatever statements.

Boy was I wrong, these quotes are disgusting.

And it’s not all that different from what I’m reading from many other users on this platform.

And this from both sides. I’ve seen these exact same justifications for the killings of People in Gaza several times in the last week. Up and including to people accepting the complete destruction of Gaza and its inhabitants as valid response to this latest terror attack. It’s frankly disgusting how little it takes for certain people to support genozid.

And let’s be honest, western Militarys, including the IDF, do use the “15 year olds are military age.” to distinct between civilians and “legitimate military targets” when it comes to collateral damage.

And to be clear, I completely disagree with such disgusting “justifications” and “rationalisations” of killing civilians regardless from which side they come.

I definitely won’t defend these comments (let me rephrase: I won’t even read them).

But just to put it into perspective, there are 219 contributers on the backend code alone. By pure chance you will find any political opinion there. Some you would agree with, most you feel indifferent about and a few who you wonder how the hell they arrived at their conclusions.
