Are e-bikes replacing traditional motorcycles, or are riders trading up from regular bicycles?
I think it’s a lot of different segments that they’re capturing. Commuters are switching from cars to electric 2 wheels, bikers that live in places that are difficult to bike regularly are using e-bikes for more instead of falling back to a car, younger people are getting e-bikes instead of cars, motorcycle guys are also getting them for general use and recreation.
I see tons out here because we’re in the mountains with minimal bike infrastructure and it’s easier to keep up with traffic safely on hills on an e-bike.
for most of the applications in recreational motorcycling, electric motorcycles aren’t really good yet. The rande limitation is too severe.
For commuter use, however, electric motorcycles and scooters outshine gasoline vehicles in many ways. In warmer climates, particularly south and southeast asia, motorcycle and scooters are viable year round commuting tools, and are seeing a shift towards cheap electric models
i don’t believe it. displacement is a specific word which means that, if what they’re claiming is true, oil consumption on the road has dropped.
as much as i want to believe, i just really don’t think it has
Yeah this just seems like a fake progress narrative. They’re probably counting every electric moped in a Global South country as “displacing” some American’s SUV despite the fact that people have been using motorcycles forever.
I’m pretty sure electric vehicles haven’t even put a dent in fuel consumption. They probably haven’t even made up just for new drivers since electric vehicles have started becoming more common.
yup, to displace any trip that would have been taken in an ice car would have to not be taken in an ice car. entirely new trips on ebikes, because ebikes are fun to ride, don’t count towards displacement.
