The heads of Canada’s biggest grocers met in Ottawa on Monday after the Liberal government summoned them to come up with a plan to ‘stabilize’ food inflation.

Food inflation was still sitting at 9% while general inflation had dropped sub 3%. They can support this initiative by ceasing to rip us off. Frankly I’m annoyed that we’re apparently seeking their support rather than demanding their obedience or meting out consequences.

I agree and I don’t trust them or the government to do anything about it…

But, by giving them a chance to do something first, they will have no defence if gets to the point where there needs to be additional regulations.

      We will see.

Also, the committee we convened to look into this very important issue cost $1.4 million so we have to adjust our prices to reflect the new financial burden we’ve taken on like the heroes that we are.

Order them to do it instead of politely asking them to stop. This is a no-brainer and something almost every single Canadian would support.

The farm gate price already stabilized earlier this year. It’s only a matter of waiting for older futures contracts to expire for the same to show up at the grocery store. There is always such a lag. Same reason we didn’t see the price jump immediately when the farm gate price skyrocketed in 2021.

Everyone already knows that, Ottawa especially, so what’s the point of this dog and pony show?
