minus-squaremnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·1 year ago unless you stared at the character’s lips and tried to see where it didn’t line up Huh? Japanese dubs tend to be worse at lipsync than english dubs
minus-squareSludgeyy@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up2arrow-down1·1 year agoI don’t see your point The only way you can tell if something is dubbed is because the lips do not line up with the words. Well and as long as the dubbed voice doesn’t sound completely comical or unnatural, the only way to tell it’s dubbed is by watching the lips
minus-squaremnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·1 year agoSo… you can’t tell if it’s dubbed in English by simply listening to whether it’s spoken in English or Japanese?
minus-squareSludgeyy@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up1·1 year agoNo? Why would you be able to? No matter how the characters look or act, there is no default language of the made up character. They could speak any language or have any voice.
minus-squaremnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·1 year ago Why would you be able to? Why wouldn’t I be able to distinguish Japanese from English, French, German, etc. ? No matter how the characters look or act, there is no default language of the made up character. Dude, this is an anime community. Name 3 anime whose original dub is in English. Or any non-asian language. They could speak any language or have any voice. The lipsyncing is done based on the language used in the original dubbing. Which is Japanese 99 times out of 100
