Alright everyone, let’s get this party started. The title asks the question pretty well. What is the main use of your Linux install? Is it gaming, programming, just to dump windows etc…

Let’s have some fun everyone.

I always thought about running a RP. But I just don’t have a scaleable need for one. It might have been a different case if as card manufactures had a 500gb card available. Then I would use it as a small plex server for my home where I could upload movies to it through ssh connection.

I’m using it at work for development. At home I’m daily driving tumbleweed for gaming and whatnot. I have a few servers running proxmox with various VMs for self hosting

As someone is wanting to set up their own self hosted server is it pretty simple to set up?

So, my work had OpenStack, and I started reading about that, and I was like, “I want that! Just, VMs on tap, try out any server software, abstracted storage. Cool.”

I spent, like, two years trying to get a simple three machine OpenStack working.

Proxmox? Got 'em all working in less than an afternoon.

That said, I’m still figuring out the quirks. But if you have a spare old box kicking around, it’s actually easier to set up Proxmox and then try the Turnkey containers for this and that then actually installing whole bare metal servers. Serious fun.

Guess I’ll have to try it. Been talking to the wife about making a tower a dedicated home server and maybe even opening it up to the net. But I won’t do that until it is properly locked down for wide open internet access. If at all.

I use it as the operating system for my personal computer.

But seriously I use it for graphic design, drawing comics, making music and gaming.

Nice. It seems that some translation in my question maybe an issue lol.

I realize that a lot of people think this community is based solely on server side. But, our community is also for the random home user that isn’t necessarily Linux centric or is just starting with Linux in general s well as troubleshooting issues both on pc or servers.

The irritation for me stated back with windows ME and the constant bsod’s I would randomly get every couple of days. Been on Linux since then, currently using endeavourOS as my daily driver and am very happy with it.
