It’s pretty hard for kids who grow up with rich family to cut themselves off from that in order to stand by their ideals. It’s easy to get into a fear/survival mindset, and simply toe the line in the hopes you get money coming to you someday. Lots of trans and gay folks absolutely went (and still go) from being middle/upper class to working/poverty because they refused to toe the family line.
