I’ve been a little skeptical of why the PS5 port of Reverie existed, given that the PS4 Pro performance of that game and engine is “good enough” and I’m not sure if getting increased performance was worth giving up the admittedly trivial VR features. Games like Ys VIII and especially IX had a lot of performance potential to catch up on, but not the PhyreEngine Trails games. Seemingly it’s valuable enough to make these new ports worth doing, though.
If it brings the series to more people it’s a good thing, though I wish that the licensing situation for Falcom’s games allowed NISA or other parties to bring older games that are otherwise unavailable outside of PC to modern consoles, rather than enhanced ports of games that are already playable on PS5. While I mostly play these games on PC myself, getting modern console versions of the older games would go a long way to making them accessible to anyone who wants to play them.
FWIW The PS5 version of Reverie plays and looks nearly as great as the PC version does on my 3070ti
I don’t have any experience with the PS4 Pro, but the performance of CSIV on my PS4 Slim was abysmal, as was the graphical fidelity
As usual though, the PC version is absolutely the definitive edition 😁
