Hey there! August is almost over and autumn or spring are right around the corner. How has your week been? Did you get much stitching done? Did you start a new project?

I’m just commenting so I remember to post a picture tomorrow. I started a modified combination of these two patterns this morning, and it’s the first time I’ve used variegated floss and now I’m worried I’ll never be able to use anything else. The store I buy Lecien floss from (across the country, of course) is about to have to ship me all of it.

That should be really interesting! I especially like the enchanted forest one! How are you going to combine them?

I’m using the forest one as the border and the bear in the middle. I just cut off the flowers on the left side of the bear and added a second back foot because I liked how it looked better. I’m making a few adjustments to the colors to make everything work together, but it didn’t require much there.

I really like that border, and I’d like to try it myself, but that kind of embroidery seems way more intimidating compared to cross stitch lol

I feel the opposite! I’m intimidated by the counting and how everything has to be so precise with cross stitch. Embroidery is more like, eh I messed that up a little, stitch something next to it to make it look better.

It’s a split stitch - it’s just back stitching, but you just stick the needle through the middle of your previous stitch. The original pattern used chain stitch but it’s a lot more work, so I went the lazier route that still gives a similar kind of sweater-y effect.

I was getting frustrated with my more complicated projects, so I decided to just do something fun I could zone out to

Prince Vegeta is coming along well so far, although I will have used up all the black floss I have on his hairdoo soon lol

I doubt most people would consider big chunks of black like that to be “fun” but hey whatever floats your boat 😄

Looking good! I also am in fairly desperate need of more black floss, thank you for the reminder, need to shift my cold enough that I can actually set foot in a shop though, that’s step 1 atm. Sigh.

The other two projects (which I’ll post about soon) involve very detailed blackwork, or constant thin lines of different colors, so the big chunks of color in this one are like a break so I don’t go cross eyed lol

Bit of a crap photo, I’ve got a cold and have no energy to actually move or set up a nice view of it, or in fact to even tighten the fabric in the hoop. But I’m working on a little sunset pattern design that is supposed to go live on Friday and now on Wednesday I’m testing different colours because of course I am. Thankfully it’s going to be a quick stitch, but still. Holy last-minute-itis.

What count fabric is your greenhouse on? I keep meaning to ask but get distracted. Also have you given any thought to how you’ll finish it? It’s such a cool piece, definitely needs to be displayed with pride!

Oh no! Colds are the worst! I hope you feel better soon. The sunset has some Outrun aesthetic vibes. I really like it!

What count fabric is your greenhouse on?

I meant to get 18 count but 16 was what they had in stock with the colour I liked so 16 it is. I’m glad I picked it because it feels so nice to work with, the grid also helped me immensely. As for finishing, I think I’ll go with an ornate Victorian-style frame. It really depends on what I find and how much they’re going to charge me. My local store works frames for dirt cheap so they’re the first place to ask.

I think in these times of rarely catching anything I’d forgot just how rotten a basic cold can make you feel 😭 Well on the mend now though, it was worth it to spend my bestie’s bday weekend with her!

Love the sound of that frame plan, dirt cheap is my kind of price.

I hope you feel better soon! I love this new piece! The colors remind me of the Lite Brite I had as a kid lol

I finished yet another page from the Greenhouse of oddities, marking the right side of the greenhouse, filled with mostly nightshades, complete. The next page is the unfinished (stinky) flower in the middle. It’s going to be a quick one as it has about 250 stitches left.

I don’t cross stitch, but this design has me thinking about it. I love everything about it, and it’s so beautiful even in progress.
