Australia’s environmental protection legislation needs all hands-on deck right now.
The Albanese government is currently preparing its response to the Samuel review and Minister Plibersek has made encouraging remarks about the need for an effective Act.
Getting the best outcome from Graeme Samuel’s work and the review of the EPBC Act must be a top priority (even the top priority) for the next few months for anyone interested in protecting Australia’s environment and combating climate change.
Nonetheless, it’s clear that the temperature range that is considered ‘normal’ (i.e. the area around the peak of each curve where the most common maximum daily temperatures occur) was hotter during 2005-2015 than it was in 1951-1980.
I use it as a personal call to action which then keeps my conscience clean. If I did “nothing”, then I figure I would be in the doomer cycle.
I know what you mean though.
If Lemmy took off, I’d like it to have a strong foundation of environmental posting because every other platform I’ve seen, Australians tend to ignore it and we can all see how that’s working out for us. We ignored it at our peril and I’m not talking climate, the local degradation and extinctions are the ones we are all responsible for.
The fact that everyone is still back on reddit shows how little we care about morals and ethics. Using Facebook is another example.
Appreciate the work.
I think people are just so busy trying to get through life they just want some easy distraction without thinking about things, it’s understandable.
Yeah, I get it. Everyone’s busy. It’s insane to me but I understand.
Not a great meme below but made me think of the “shareholder value” meme too.
