Hey guys. I just recently found out about prism launcher and shortly after that it was forked from mmc. I’m now wondering what you guys prefer for playing Minecraft on Linux. It feels like mmc hasn’t been updated in a while so I was thinking about trying out prism.
Prism Launcher has been my go-to ever since it first released, after the PolyMC hostile takeover. They’ve pushed out a lot of quality-of-life updates like being able to download and update mods from the common mod repositories straight in the launcher. Modpack installation is super easy whether it’s CurseForge or Modrinth. The only downside I can think of is that you have to install Java yourself, but honestly that’s pretty straight forward.
That sounds great. Installing and updating curseforge modpacks is quite the hassle with mmc. Also I installed Java manually anyways. :) Thanks for the detailed info!
Prism seems to be able to update entire modpacks, though I haven’t tried it myself. Used to be a hassle with mmc/polymc to do that.
Just use prism, it’s multimc but properly maintained, pro OSS (if you care) and has a built-in curse/modrinth downloader.
I’ve only used it on Windows, but for what it’s worth ATLauncher can run on Linux.
Prism is great, it’s in the Flatpak store so you can easily install it with Discover on Steam Deck; add a controller mod like MidnightControls or Controllable and you’re golden
Prism user here, I’ve noticed barely any difference between the two. I think using prism is more of a philosophy thing, so I don’t think you’ll go wrong choosing either one, but since like you said mmc hasn’t updated in a while, I’ll recommend prism.
Prism has worked great for me
