Its already 50c or more per kilowatt hour… https://www.pge.com/assets/pge/docs/account/rate-plans/residential-electric-rate-plan-pricing.pdf
On top of the “The Electric Home Rate Plan includes a $15-per-month Base Services Charge”… because people were starting to get 100% of their power from solar and it was “unfair”.
I live in the Pacific northwest and our energy rates are, last I looked, 0.07/kwh. I say last I looked because Im not hooked up to the PUD, as I found buying used solar panels (so 20+ years left), 4 8D marine batteries, and a used charge controller and inverter to be cheaper than just getting service hooked up at my lot. They wanted $5k for the power pole (couldn’t share one with my neighbor, idk why), then a couple grand for my own transformer, that I had to buy but give to the PUD ie I couldn’t disconnect it and take it with me anywhere else, and then fees. Came out to $12k just to get a bill for forevermore.
I think I’m $3k total into my 10 250w panels with all the cabling and accessori.
I have to run a generator for my air compressor and welder but thats really my only restrictions. I can make it work in the Pacific Northwest, when I only get direct sun until 1pm, all year. Public utilities are fucking corrupt pieces of shit, imo, only dwarfed by private utilities. Personal utilities ftw
