ROCKNIX is a continuation of JELOS and I have it installed on my RGB30 because ArkOS wasn’t letting me enable WiFi. I want to use it as a dedicated PICO-8 machine and have it boot automatically into Splore, the PICO-8 cartridge browser, but I can’t seem to find the setting to do this. Which seems strange considering how many modern firmwares have this.
I’m starting to think ROCKNIX doesn’t have an option for this. I’ve clicked around the settings but haven’t come across anything. I’d like appreciate it if someone could confirm my suspicion.
I can’t offer help, as am only just testing rocknix, but I’ll chime in if I find anything.
Appreciate it!
I dont have an answer, but I just wanted to respond because it’s pretty awesome seeing anyone else on Lemmy talking about Rocknix and ArkOS.
Have you got any idea why wifi wouldn’t toggle on ArkOS? I’ve had a great experience with it on the RG353V, but it was a bit finicky the first time I tried it. I reflashed the firmware on a different microSD and that weirdly resolved the issues I had, which resolved around sound and Bluetooth not working right.
It may have to do with the application used to flash the SD card. Here is a comment from /r/Powkiddy
So I flashed the RockNix one more time. Maybe third one was the charm. Also realized that I got a v2 of rgb30 and did a tweaking which they posted at their github pdf. I got my ssid but never seen connected to wifi this time. OK. I tried the old “factory reset” thingy and voila! Device is just froze at the scumm screen after the bootup. Hard shutdown and open again, its working but still no wifi.
So I considered my other options on firmware, which is ArkOs. So I watched a video about it, decided to go with it. When I opened the ArkOs wiki, it says “DO NOT USE BALENA ETCHER WITH THIS IMAGE. There has been reports of various strange issues and inconsistent performance using Etcher for this image.” Wait, what? I was using Balena for whole of those images. OK. I downloaded another usb formater Rufus. And then while waiting for huge ArkOs download to finish, I decided to flash RockNix one more time but this time I will use Rufus…
I did…
Did a factory reset, all good, didn’t freeze after the boot this time.
Enabled network, backed out, but still no “wifi is on” message… But at least, it found my SSid.
Wait! It even connected to internet after inputting my password! What?
Yeah, RockNix is working after I flashed it with Rufus. Really? I never thought that would effect on something like this. Dunno what happened.
The TLDR is Rufus worked instead of Balena Etcher.
Oh, yeah. That was an issue with ArkOS on the RG353, too.
