This is a great game. They’ve managed to pull off a roguelike citybuilder; a genre combination that one would think would not work. Great visuals and atmosphere too.
Can you help me understand what “rogue-like” is? I have looked up the definition multiple times when I see it in posts like this, and I come away with “ok, I guess this game is a rogue-like.” I literally looked it up today when I saw a post that said Balatro is a rogue like. But I just don’t understand the genre/category/rules of what makes something a rogue-like or not or…
It’s honestly not so much a genre as a playstyle.
The focus is more on session-based gameplay. You go in, win/lose and start another run. Most roguelikes will give you permanent upgrades for success in a session that will make subsequent runs somewhat easier.
That being said, the exact ruleset can vary a lot even among games that explicitly market themselves as roguelike.

Thank you. What the hell every other explainer on the internet?!?! That’s so simple. That makes so much sence.
FFS my current game is a rogue-like and I never would have known this, despite literally looking up the definition earlier today.
Thank you Karyo-san.
