What is Lemmy?

Lemmy is an open-source ‘federated’ alternative to Reddit that puts privacy and free speech first. It’s decentralized, transparent, and user-controlled. Each node is independently operated and managed, but they can communicate with each other to share data and content. Don’t like the rules or management of a server? Simply jump ship and join an instance run by different people with different set of rules.

Why now?

With the recent changes to the API, many people are looking for a Reddit alternative, so we felt like it was the right time to give something like this a shot. While this will primarily be about the wiki and piracy in general, we welcome anyone who wants to create their own community on this instance.
