Why would you change the 2023 ranking about that though? :p
Still not reflecting there but looking a bit better though: https://ratings.fide.com/
I thought I already said this, but I was pointing out the trophy emoji beside ding
this sorted by elo tho. and being world champion has nothing to do with elo.
I am pointing out the trophy emoji, also maybe update those elos
Yes, but that isn’t the same as FIDE ratings.
Gukesh currently #5 at 2783
Champion status shouldn’t reflect rating IMO. They measure different things (your ability to perform in the highest pressure tournaments, versus general skill)
He can change this by continuing to win more and lose less. To reflect being #1 he needs to take #1 from Magnus. That is probably the hardest challenge he will face in his career/life.
I think he’s referring to the trophy emoji next to Ding’s name
What is the problem? That the reigning world champion isn’t also the highest rated player (or strongest player when there wasn’t a serious rating system)? That has happened many times before, even not counting the PCA-FIDE title split era. Think of Karpov in 1975 when Fischer was in the background like Carlsen is now.
As for Caruana and Nakamura, well, they played in the same Candidates’ as Gukesh. They didn’t win it and Gukesh did, so what do you want to happen?
Pretty sure they’re referencing the trophy icon being next to Ding still, not the actual ratings of the players.
Edit: Although I could be wrong. I’m a bit confused why it’s the September 2023 ratings that they posted.
THIS.
Because those are the rankings that are displayed in the Chess@lemmy.ml sidebar. They haven’t been updated in over a year.
