We are making silly mistakes, and not as “light” on our feet so to speak. But it’s not like it was too terrible.

That said, I’m really liking Jurrien, Tomi had a decent half, glad ESR is looking pretty good.

Also, Fabio really needs work, my god he’s still getting runned over. A kid about 7 years old in front of me was like “why is he on? what is this world coming to?” lol.

I wonder what the plan is for him. Arteta rates him, so he must have quality. I wonder if he’ll play the smaller teams that sit back, but then he might be a liability if we turn it over.

I think he’s League cup and FA cup early games only. We need a rotation of about 8 or 9 players in those games since we won’t rotate much in the prem and CL.

There are glimpses of brilliance and Porto fans loved him, I’m just wondering if it’s because he doesn’t fit into our system or is having a tough time learning it. He’s also not getting minutes to gain experience, but it’s like how do we trust him? I certainly wouldn’t trust him going up against Luton or Burnley

The penalties at the end were a weird one huh?

I wonder if it was an agreement between the teams to have them so they could practice taking penalties after 90 minutes of action.

I think it was said that Arteta wanted pens so that we could get experience taking them in front of a crowd.

My son went to a tournament a few weeks ago and played a few friendlies. They won the first one 7-0 and then went to pens for practice. It really just is a replication of taking them in front of people.

This was rough one. We definitely don’t look ready for the season yet. Mistakes aside, the squad as a whole just looked disjointed imho.

Totally agree. But after the mls all-star game I guess I just thought it would go a little different. 😅

I don’t generally enjoy shitting on MLS more than necessary, but that match was a blowout. It was men against boys.

I mean like Rooney pointed out, they couldn’t train for shit cuz it’s literally “here’s a bunch of players, half of which the coach didn’t even pick. Oh and you don’t even get a pitch to train on. Good luck! We’re all counting on you.”

Fair. The good news, we don’t know what the goals were or how they were playing. Arteta is ridiculously secretive, so I’m sure he doesn’t want to show the other United what the plans are.

This is really just a $£ grab, nothing more. Which is good, because we need the £$

I know it’s preseason and mostly meaningless but we looked completly toothless.

Also Ramsdale is way ahead of the level he should be at his age but he may need to be subbed off for penalty shootouts. Definitely an area he needs to focus on improving.

Didn’t see the match but will try and catch some highlights later.

From looks of comments around here we were experimenting, did it look like United were just playing to win or also using it as an experiment?

A united fan I know seemed rather smug about the victory so I have a feeling that they weren’t trying anything new

They don’t have much of an attacking build-up and rely on hoofball tactics. Defended well, blocked cutbacks and low crosses. Made strong(a.k.a foul) tackles to stop the ball getting into the attacking third.

We lacked attacking bite because for the majority of the game, Odegaard played deeper and Zinchenko didn’t start(hence minimal penetration in the final third). Although Takehiro did well as an overlapping LB, crosses were easy to defend for them.

Saka received the Saka treatment from their players as well as referees.
