Another discussion post. Simple enough question: are you good with what we got?
Personally, I’m of mixed feelings. I’ve gone on and on about this in various different TF2 spaces, but my opinion boils down to this - what content we do get is good, but it’s made by the community and pretty scarce; TF2 is still one of the top games by both yearly gross revenue and concurrent players, and yet all Valve can do is add community maps and some lootboxes filled with community hats and warpaints every few months. Even this promised update was basically just two holiday updates stapled together, with the only real unique thing of Vs. Saxton Hale mode (still community made) being broken on launch and (to my knowledge) still not fixed.
What we did get was good. I love Selbyen (both because haha seal but also because I love Player Destruction and it’s a good deathmatch map), Reckoner, Hardwood, and Rotunda. I’m not going to bother opening a crate because I’m not gonna support more Valve microtransactions, but I’ve heard the hats were good and the warpaints were alright. I just think the game should get more, even despite its age, because of how well it still performs.
EDIT: Also, no community fixes, what’s up with that? Wasn’t that part of what was promised?
In terms of the content we got, the majority of maps, taunts, cosmetics, and war paints are great. I think Venice and maybe Cashworks are the only maps that are not on-par with the other picks but I still had a few fun games in them. Not really buying taunts or cosmetics so far but maybe I’ll trade for some when the prices decrease.
I was looking forward to VSH mode but it’s still broken so that’s a bummer. Also it’s kinda hard to enjoy the new maps when there’s more bots than usual the past few days.
I heard they might add community fixes in future updates so that’s still something to look forward to…
I agree on those two maps. They’re far from the worst, but they’re both very long and very linear (even for payload), long sightlines and some strange detailing choices.
I didn’t know about that tweet, so if we get more that’ll be good, but… c’mon Valve.
yea had fun with it, they were a bit slow on distributing medals, venice being bad and vsh not in matchmaking, but fun regardless
since I didn’t really have high expectations for the update in the first place, i’m content. maps are good for the most part. the ones I disliked were Cashworks and Venice. warpaints are bangers through and through. the HL1 medkit is the only cosmetic I care about. no community fixes {for now, at least.} is a big bummer. and an even bigger bummer is broken VSH on launch.
overall, it sure is one of the updates ever made.
For what it’s worth they seem to have finally fixed VSH, but yeah.
The player elimination mode in general and the seal map in particular are amazing. I was getting bored with TF2 for a while but it made me want to play more often
